I have always enjoyed the times when I was the principal of a kindergarten . Personally I had so much joy ...and fun working with children .
One of the school's yearly program was to go out on school trips because I believed that learning should not only occur inside the classroom . Such trips helped to reinforce the themes during the school year . Trips like these were an excitement for both the teachers and the children .They had fun in the sun and enjoyed the company of friends .
This school trip was about the theme " Planet Earth "
For the children it further reinforced the idea of friendship and further developed this skill ; while they played and interacted with other children of different age group . However such enthusiasm were not shared and accepted by some parents . For them when children attended a kindergarten it meant its learning time …to read , write and count . Playtime or school trips were considered as a waste of time .
Play is important and a social part of childhood . There is skill to be acquired here esp . development of their gross and fine motor skills .
I felt sorry for these children and sad too . Sad as these parents were not that encouraging in the implementation of certain school programs . Much as I wanted to just bring them along ....the school procedure required that before each child participated in any school trip a written permission must be obtained from their parents .
Each teacher will supervise only a number of children which normally will be her own class . She will be assisted by at least two or three parents .
and discover ...
and investigate ....this particular grasshopper .
Developing skills and hands on activities create experiences .
Little scientists actively discovering the world .
Interesting and beginning to understand the world .
The trip home ......tired....a time to snooze
In the school bus .
No child will be allowed to be dropped off or picked up from the field trip destination. Children must leave and return on the school bus under the direct supervision of a staff member.
I hope these children when they saw thse pictures they remember the times they had while in kindergarten .
